This third answer is a list of the character’s strongest traits.

i These traits are a source of false pride for the character. They will never alleviate his or her fear because a character’s greatest strength is also his or her greatest weakness. These are the traits the character uses to cope with or compensate for the fear.

The Character's Strongest Traits are:

The traits the character believes are his or her salvation.

The traits the character relies on to get out of trouble or “fix” problems caused by the Trouble Traits.

The traits the character leans on and uses as a crutch instead of making the Leap of Faith.

The traits the character has to a fault.

The traits the character must surrender.

i Characters use their strongest traits to cope with or compensate for their fear rather than facing it. The character will still have all the strong traits he or she surrenders. The character just won’t use them as a crutch to try to manage the fear. Instead, he or she will turn and face the fear head-on.

Laurie Hutzler’s Emotional Toolbox approach incorporates many of the same materials Laurie uses in her popular courses at the famed UCLA film school. It’s the same method Laurie uses in her own work and in all of her international consulting.

The Emotional Toolbox makes intuitive sense—it’s based on universal truths we all know and understand instinctively. Learn to use these principals consciously to make informed creative choices. The Emotional Toolbox is easy to use, and most importantly, it works.
